PARISH PRIEST

Our parish priest, Father Peter Gębara (SCJ), was born on May 10th 1958 in Chorzów, located in Silesia in south-west Poland. He is the sixth child in a family of ten children. Father Peter attended comprehensive school and high school in his hometown after which he began his noviciate in the religious community of priests and brothers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SCJ) in Pliszczyn near Lublin. After one year as a novice he continued to study philosophy and theology at Stadniki near Kraków. He received his master’s degree in moral theology. He was ordained in June 1986. His first parish was the parish of Węglówka in the mountain region of southern Poland. From there he was transferred to the parish of Chmielów in central Poland. As a priest he has mainly worked with children and adolescents.

Father Peter arrived in Finland on July 21st 1991. He started as an assistant priest at Holy Cross Parish in Tampere where he also started his studies in the Finnish language and became acquainted with the Finnish culture and society. After a short period of time father Peter became an assistant parish priest of the wide-spread Holy Cross parish and later parish priest. He was assigned by the bishop to be the parish priest of the St. Bridget and Blessed Hemming’s parish in Turku on January 1st 2003. Father Peter is known as an engaged, active, energetic and cheerful priest.

PAROCHIAL VICAR

Our parochial vicar, Father Stanisław Zawiłowicz (SCJ), was born on April 15th 1984 in Krynica-Gorska, located in southern Poland, and ordained as a priest on May 23rd 2010 in Stadniki near Kraków. He arrived in Finland on August 28th 2012.
